Julie Fox – Author

My background in writing for children revolves around my position as a Teacher’s Assistant in a Long Day Care Centre, in Australia, where I have worked for the past 12 years. For 10 of these years I have worked with children aged 4-5 years in the preschool room. This has given me an invaluable insight into the appeal of certain books for children of this age. Reading to the children each day allows me to identify what keeps the child focused, interested and excited about a particular story.

As well as reading to the children I have written many stories specifically for them over these years, which they ask for again and again. They actually helped me develop this series, listening with rapt attention, laughing in all the right places, and noticing one little boy’s attachment to his own blankie, just like Romeo! These children have been the best critics a writer could wish for!

Now that the Romeo’s World series of books has been published, my preschool children can’t wait each month for the next shipment. One little boy excitedly called out to me; “I can read”, when he noticed some of the highlighted words repeated throughout the story. There is a well known saying; ‘fun is learning, and learning is fun’- exactly the right formula in each of Romeo’s adventures!
